411 locals.com is a huge scam. They profess to keep your info on the first page of the google map. Out of 3 or 4 months I've been front page just a few weeks. I've been sending them e-mails and the only response I get is "we're working aggressively to address your concerns". I've also been leaving phone messages which are not replied too. If you are contacted by these people (Doc Taylor seems to be the ringleader) hang up as fast as you can!
If they have ripped you off as well please join me in giving them bad reviews on sites such as;

411locals @ Pissed Consumer (http://411locals.pissedconsumer.com/)

Main Street Host is similar. One of my local competitors hired them. They stole the picture of MY van off MY website and used it in his listing.

I had main street host when I first moved to Texas. I needed a big push on the website to bring me quicker to the front page. 1 year up front so I would not have to deal with it. It turned out that I made every significant change for anything to happen on the site. After about a month to a month and a half there was nothing done by them.

Used another company to get listed at the top paid adds for a flat from another company. I was listed maybe 1 to 2 days out of five at the top. The rest was either not there or half way or more down the right column. It was a month to month deal and I dropped them.

I know folks that put out a 1,000 a month and stay at the top paid adds month after month after year in all of DFW Texas. Not sure who they use and obviously not putting it out there. It must work because it is never ending. I know for a fact that a couple guys have done it for over a year. Obviously it must be working for them. Just to long a period to put that kind of money out if it were not working.

IMHO, all of the folks that call and say they will get you to the top of Google or whatever are scammers. It is all a bunch of hogwash with what they are telling you!

Never buy any service from anyone that cold calls you! First rule of how to not get screwed in business!

I do not pay anyone to place my site high on the search engines for the areas I want to work in. It is pretty much done by good content, good titles and tags and most of all a old domain name that is around 10 years of age.
