This is a new one for me.
Separate (not continuous) stair guards from one landing to the next. The gaps between the ends of the guards at the landings were 5-6 inches.

Not allowed for two reasons: 1) wider than 4"; 2) the minimum height of the guard is required to be either 36" (presuming that is in a dwelling unit) and the guard height at that opening is -0-", needs to have a top rail EVEN IF the space was only 4" or less.

That needs a top rail AND an intermediate baluster to reduce the opening width - except that looks like a glazed in-fill guard, which means that area could have a top rail and a glazed in-fill panel.
