This San Clemente land slide is going on a few blocks from me. Very sad to see it happen.

SAN CLEMENTE -- A large section of land collapsed behind six hillside homes overnight leaving homeowners uncertain about their safety.

Firefighters with the Orange County Fire Authority were called to Via Ballena at 10:18 a.m., said Capt. Greg McKeown.

Resident Joesph Arriola told reporters he heard a loud crack around sunset and the hill just gave way.

"It was pretty dark last night and we didn't see the damage," said Roshy Gill, who was staying with her parents.

"We saw it this morning, and we were scared."

Residents are waiting for a geologist to determine the stability of the slope.

Yes, that is scary and a major concern for those home owners. I imagine a retaining wall will need to be built to save those properties, and that will take big bucks. They'll need road access to the base of that bluff as well.
