Is it safe to have a dimmer switch control a bathroom heat lamp?

It will depend on the wattage of the buld and the rating on the dimmer.
But for most I don't think there would be a problem.

Most dimmers are rates for 600 w max. Though some are 400 w. max.

Not on a Broan model 162/164 bulb heater/fan unit.

The install instructions say "Do not operate unit with dimmer switch or speed control".

In many of those units the fan is wired hot through a thermal switch. If the unit over heats the fan comes on automatically.
Dimmer = bad.
