Imperial shingles

Recently I came across a reference to "imperial shingles". Does anyone have any idea what they are?

Imperial as opposed to metric, imperial shingles are 12" x 36"and metric shingles are 33 cm x 1 meter (or ~13" x 39"). There are also a shingle named "Imperial Gentry" by IKO.
