If you gave us a brand name we could look it up.

Hi:
The water heater in question is a Bradford-White gas fired water heater.
23 years old.

The IFGC Table 402.2 says to figure 35,000 for approximate gas input for a 30-40 gallon water heater.

Why would you need to know the BTU input on a 23 y/o DHW heater? It should be replaced and that would mean probably moving up to a 40/40. Are you checking on liner sizing, gas piping, or makeup air calculations?
