We recently had to replace our water heater but I realized the original house (1955) never had a discharge line for the prior water heater.

Being located in Los Angeles and have a tight closet what is the preferred material?

My thought was to connect cpvc to the tpr and run under house out to side.

I'm just not sure what others do for clearance from the vent pipe using CPVC because I thought I heard cpvc has to be 6" from vent pipe. Which would mean I would need to do 6" of copper or another approved material then adapt to cpvc.

Input appreciated

around here I see a lot of installers using a small section of galvanized and then transitioning into CPVC. I also see a lot of installers just ignoring the rule and using plastic and have yet to see any damage.... but it's still wrong.
