View Full Version : About that 4" space in safety railings

We've always known about this issue of too much space between the uprights of a safety railing. Most of us call it out. Inevitably, the buyer and/or Realtors blow it off.
Here's a good example of why they shouldn't.

It all turned out well but it could have had a very different and tragic ending.:eek:

I've seen a little duct tape used to help reduce the space between those. The stair railings would need other solutions though.;)

Those are larger than 4 inches. They won't fit threw.:D Maybe if you squeeze them a little.:cool:

The spacing for the balusters/guard in-fill along the sides of stairs is allowed to be 4-3/8" ... but don't tell anyone, if they are not smart enough to know that, let them reduce that spacing to 4" - it is safer that way. :)
