Pipe on slab foundation

Just curious how do some of you inspectors write these up . This was
a pipe on outside exterrior and there was some excavation but really
no problems other than that looks of it and water intrusions . see pic

What is the pipe for?

If I found something like that and I had no idea what it was for or did I would take a picture of it and tell my client in the report that I found a pipe at X location and I have no idea what it is for or does.

Keep it simple and report what you see.

This house was only 8 yrs old and the pipe was about 6inch round and
metal like cast iron or something i just took a picture and kept it simple like you said not throwing up red flags . i could not verify what this pipe was .

Can it be possible that there was an underground oil tank underneath, before the house was built? This looks a lot like an oil tank's vent pipe

Sorry to question this, but looking at the flora in the picture I'm having a hard time seeing this to be anything near six inches in diameter. Perhaps you meant its elevation from the ground was nearer to six inches?

What's that yellow cord or cable behind the yucca or aloe leaf to the left apparently entering/leaving the building above the slab? Perhaps that may yield a "clue" as to the former function.

Picture is somewhat blurry, but it looks like it could be rigid metalic conduit. Might also be galv gas pipe. Although you described it to be somewhat like cast iron, doesn't look that way in the picture, however if one was unfamiliar with "black gas pipe" or black steel gas pipe, aka black "iron" gas pipe, one might describe it as looking similar to cast iron.

Perhaps a bollard or post light was once present, gas or electric, a gas grill, even an outlet (receptacle) or other box ped. Is that nipple end threaded? Is that nut brass or bronze? Is that a wire inside, debris, a bug, or a photo affect? Thinking that yellow cord or cable to the left might be related.

To me, my first take is a busted sprinkler head. Look at the height, look like its palstic from the picture, its in corner of a flower bed or next to a wall.
First thing that comes to mind when I see pipes is
Is it use as a vent? If use as a vent to what equipment? (tank, furnace, sewer line)
Next questions is, is it used a drain pipe for some type of drainage?
Next question is, is it used to supply water? If so, from what?
I recommend looking at other house in the area, for the same exact item

I think Scott has the best reply. If you don't know something take a picture, say so and move on. I may recommend that if the home buyer had a huge question about it call a plumber.

You see the plants (flora)?

That's some trick photography if we're supposed to believe this "pipe" is four inches in diameter (let alone six inches D)!

Looks like a sprinkler head to me. If that's structural foundation behind it, looks like it might be failing. Much bigger problems than a mystery pipe.

Is that / are those segmental blocks or the foundation? (around the pipe)

There seems to be some confusion about which pipe in the photo is the subject of discussion. I think the original poster is asking about the large pipe visible in the hollow of the slab behind the sprinkler head.
