Are those ring shank or spiral twist nails? If they are spiral twist, they spin free electrons which can set up a negative force field causing the electricity to slow down at this point. The rubber backing of the duct tape may act as a damper to limit the effects of the spiral twist nails. I recommend applying exterior paint on the can bottom as a rust preventative measure.

For increased safety you should probably write "UL" on it in sharpie. Otherwise everything looks good.
