Dishwasher Drain

Saw this setup for a dishwasher drain today. The copper pipe is coming in from the right is from the dishwasher.

I think you'd call that a 'low loop'. Good variety of materials too. I like the cleanout.

IAPMO states: Installation instruction and local plumbing code will dictate the requirements. Most installation instructions require drain connections to be minimum 20" above the floor level of the dishwasher.

Yes it is going up rather than down.

OK it's silly and wrong but with the exception of being able to clean out the black trap I don't see anything functionally wrong. The uphill run is the smartest thing they did !

No its not, that would be against plumbing codes. The whole mess is wrong. No venting, also the fact the dishwasher would be the lowest point in the plumbing system so when the sewer backs up you will get raw sewerage in your dishwasher. thats tasty

Here is a picture of the drain downstream from the first picture. It has a little hump in it about midway.

Often, when I see this type of install, it also violates the manufacturer's limitation on the length of the drain line, which is typically 10'.
