I inspected a home today and the boiler was installed in the back of a garage but has been enclosed in a utility room - does the ignition source need to be 18" off the floor - the utility room does not share any open space with the garage and the door is not vented. I am in westchester county, NY. Thank

18" not required as described, the room is separate and not part of the garage, if it was drawing combustion air from the garage 18" rule must be followed.

... if it was drawing combustion air from the garage 18" rule must be followed.

Which begs the question, where is the combustion air coming from? Is the utility room really big enough to provide it, or is there some other source?
