I have a 1975 home. I need to make some repairs to it. How do I find out what the code was at that time? Or does it matter. Should I just buy the latest book and go by that?

Any repairs should be made to the current codes. Buying a code book may be more confusing than discussing the repairs you are planning to make with your local building department.

I have seen archive code books for sale as a PDF. They are useful if you need to know the difference between current construction standards and the older standards. However, as Wayne already stated, any new or repair work should conform to current codes.
