Inspected this house today, built in the early 80's. This house had the ground rod at meter base up by the rod about 100 yards from the from of the house. The main wire went underground about 120 yards to the the panel, with no ground at the main panel just the 1 at the road. Is this acceptable???

Do you have a photo of this setup and one of inside of the panel?

Are you refering to a manufactured home connection from a pedestal?
Are you suggesting there was no bonding at the equipment?
There should be more than one conductor ("wire") from the equipment. How many conductors are present? Is there a main disconnect at this "meter" location? Protection? (main power feeder, service lateral, etc.).
Was there any other metalic or return path between these two structures?
Are you aware that there are more than one type of electrode ("made" or otherwise), i.e. there are other options besides "rods" which can be used in a grounding electrode system.

The equipment was bonded to the panel, but there was no ground (rod or plumbing) at the panel only at the meter (no main disconnect at meter) 5000 sq ft house. Don't know of a return path.. Thanks

There are double taps on the top two breakers. There are neturals that cross over the panel just above the top breakers. That is a target rich environment. Sparky needs to come out and fix lots of stuff. Have him fix any missing ground at the same time.
