Listed gas appliance exhaust termiantion

Saw this Cat 1 heater (pic below) discharging exhaust from this wall vent...I've not seen this configuration so my instinct is that it's wrong.

This does not appear to be a listed and labeled direct vent cap and in my opinion is an illegal installation that requires evaluation and repair by a certified and licensed HVAC contractor. If this is a Direct Vent Furnace you should see a cap somewhat like the attached.

Thanks for the reply. No, this is not a direct vent unit. This is a B-vent pipe routed vertically from the 2nd level equipment closet where it then passes through the third level and up to the roof, terminating out the side of the rooftop deck rail wall from a wall flashing hood used for kitchen exhaust fans. In 12 years, I've never seen or heard of such a configuration. At the densely built beach areas I serve, it can be time consuming to track down all dryer, water heater, exhaust fan and gas appliance exhaust terminations due to the 3-level floor plans, protruding architectural details, tight lot spacing, etc., where builders put 3 unit townhouses (on lots once featuring a single bungalow) high enough for ocean views. Then they stuff equipment at lower, partially subterranean floors where they further challenge designers to route venting through multiple levels having large open spaces and walls of glass. This home also lacked the down-facing 90-degree PVC elbow termination at the water heater exhaust and had the bathroom exhaust fans discharging from the louvered wall vents normally used for crawl spaces.

I've not seen this configuration so my instinct is that it's wrong.
Even if you saw it all the time it'd still be incorrect.

I don't think I've read many replies that had me laugh out loud like your's did. So true about whether something is common or not having anything to do with it being right.
