About as far as I go is looking at the wire in the panel to see if it is a 3 wire or 4 wire cable. If I see a 4 hole receptacle with a three wire cable I write it up as a possible grounding problem.

As a seasoned inspector with over 15 yrs of experience I would be lying if I said I did. There is a lot we inspectors need to look at besides the electrical (i.e. service entranc, main and auxillary panels, wiring, switches and outlets) in a home. You need to draw the line somewhere (and that's usually with the standards of practice of the NAHI and/or ASHI).
