View Full Version : Supply Piping Material

Hi:

This old farmhouse, built in 1930's has, in part, steel or iron supply piping (I don't know which). I've never seen this material used before. I have seen it used for gas piping.

IRC says ductile iron pipe is ok. Is this material ductile iron?

Thanks,
Joe

galvinized pipe is what you have there and is allowed for water piping.

Joe,

Like Ron said, galvanized steel piping is ok. However, in my area, it will corrode from the inside and close-in, restricting water flow. I operate multiple fixtures in the interior simultaneously and look for a significant water flow drop. Some drop is expected, but when the piping is corroded, it will typically become evident as one or more fixtures will drop to a trickle.
