Two in this 1960 house. Thought it was doorbell chime but house had one of those too.

Might be a mechanical fire alarm. Just guessing. They would wind-up and then release when they got hot.

One located above front door and other above back hallway. Looked like there was a small trumpet horn shaped thing and blue light bulb inside.

I agree with Alton (and Steven) - door bell, with a built-in light.
