Can anybody explain to me why a detached structure needs a 2" vent through the roof?

Said system ties onto the main house, it does not have its own sewer system.

You are not giving us much information to go on.
If there are any drains in the detached building the drain must also have a vent within 5' (? on 5').

Sorry, it was just meant as an abstract question. The structure has a full bathroom and a kitchen sink. The bathroom is vented, properly, through the sink. It's on a 2x1.5"x1.5" tee that then goes out through the roof on the 1.5" pipe. The toilet is on a 3" pipe (and so is the structure) so there's no issue with the vent being less than half the size of the pipe it's venting. Further downstream is the kitchen sink, which is stubbed up through the floor and will have an AAV installed at trim-out.
