Crane Water Heater Age?

Hi all! I encountered a Crane brand gas water heater yesterday, but haven't been able to come up with an age for it yet. Does anyone have a handle on what the age code in the serial number is for this brand? This was a model C5-40-NRT7, and the serial number was E77804592. It was an older unit, but 1977 seems to be quite a reach, although the house was built in 1978. I appreciate any help I can get on this!

E77... probably manufactured in May 1977.
