About your only option is going to be the spray foams or maybe spray cellulose. Holes are made in every stud bay and it is sprayed in.

Thanks Scott. Is one better then the other?

Urea formaldadyde was found to be very bad when it was curing in people's walls. I doubt that you find anyone using it in the Golden State.
Cellulose is used fairly often for insulating old walls in my area.

If there are any leaks or moisture accumulation within the wall ... you will wish you had used spray foam and not cellulose ... just something to think about as cellulose WILL HOLD MOISTURE and WILL SUPPORT the growth of that stuff most people freak out over ... "mold".

The other option is a dense pack cellulose at 3.5 lbs/cu ft.
