Coax plugged in???

I have run across this a few times now and the clients always ask about it. I know inspecting cable is beyond the scope but I'm curious. Does anyone know why coax would be plugged in? Any insight is appreciated.

It is a low voltage power supply. This we know.

The coax in this case is being used as a power cord. Not carrying a signal. It could be supplying power to a signal booster. Or a modem. Or something else that needs power.

This Motorola power supply has a coax output of 12 volts, for example.

Is is cable or satellite installation?

They use these on the new whole house systems with DirecTV also.

There was a dish installed on the side of the house. So this wouldn't be the booster itself? Just the power supply to the booster? Is the booster something that would be installed in the house somewhere else or would the buyer have to purchase one? The house was vacant and I did not find any other equipment during the inspection.

Comcast put something like that in my house a couple years ago because we were having signal problems with our cable. Since then, they changed out the outside box on the house, interior cables, the outside box at the street, and recently the cables somewhere down the road. They removed the booster after they did all that stuff.

Charter uses these to supply power to their internet modems. I just removed one of these in Illinois recently in order to return it after renter moved out.

There is a version, that is usually installed in back of the TV, that has a barrel sleeve, coax in and out, with a transformer plugged in the middle. It is used to to power a video amp up on the antenna mast.

I work for Comcast, that is a power supply for an amplifier. Dish and DirectTV have similar amps.
