Rain water, that splashed the red clay on the brick, before they fixed the gutters and re-sod.

No, but I did try to wash a pair of sneakers after a charity mud run once. After the third unsuccessful wash they ended up in the trash. ;)

Most likely it has stained the brick to the point that it can not be cleaned. Stay away from pressure washing! More folks screw up their homes by pressure washing them; it can and will force water into areas that it just does not need to go.

An acid wash and a stiff brush might get rid of some of it.

That is my thought too.

That pattern is like those caused by sprinklers. Anyone in areas with high iron content in the well water for sprinklers will recognize that.

The water for our sprinklers here in Ormond Beach is not that bad, just eventually leaves a slight discolortion.

The water for our sprinklers in South Florida had a chemical tank which canceled out most (but not all) of the rusting color from the water.

Confidant at this point it is Georgia red clay. The yard has plenty off it. I know this because I'm currently digging a french/curtain gravity drain underneath the perimeter of the below grade crawl space. Had some standing water on the low side perimeter when I bought it.

Also, the back yard did have a big wet chocolate lab living in it from the previous home owners... :rolleyes:

Not underground sprinklers are installed. Ground stays fairly saturated in the back yard.
