Found this fitting on a power vented water heater flue. Can't imagine why it's there other than the installer had some spare parts. The bottom of the fitting was open. May concern is that flue gases could spill into the dwelling.
Could it be a fitting for a drain to catch condensate? Unit has been there 10 years - no water stains observed.
