Type of siiding?

Single family home built in 1980. The siding was hard like stucco. I could not feel underneath for a weep screed or see any expansion joints becuase of the wood trim. There was about 4 coats of paint on the siding.;)

Looks like the 4x8 sheets of stuff that used to be sold at big box stores. Wood composite sheet like T111 with the fake stucco coating on top. The top coating was somewhere close to 1/8" thick. Haven't seen that stuff in a long time.
When I used to remove and replace it, the sheets were generally Ok. Edges under the 1x4 nail / detail strips were always rotted out. Probably the same scenario in your case. Those 1x's look fairly rotted and not caulked.
I let the client know that it will be an ongoing maintenance item with possible full replacement at some point.

Looks like Composition wall panels. Similar to Masonite products. They typically fail at the seams due to moisture penetration which cause the siding to swell and fall apart.

That's the way I see it.
* it appears to be Installed Better than ( not saying much considering the delamination properties ) most with flashing and gap along the roof line.

I can't imagine it's a Hardie panel installed in 1980... I've seen similar (and wondered what it really is) on that age of building before. I'm pretty sure there's even a thread or two on here of me asking.

I'd lean towards a Masonite or straight plywood material with a skim coat. Plywood sheets were common for that time period. The thick trowel marks on the pictures are just like what I've seen before from the 70s/80s.

Looks like what I call Stucco Board. Not a real stucco product, just looks (sort of) like it.

I'm surprised not to see allot of water damage in the first picture since there is no kick out flashing and there is a batten board next to it as well as a downspout adding to it above the roof.

It is Stucatto board siding. It was made by Masonite for many years.
