I own and use both at almost every inspection. I use the SM around toilets, and on tile work. The Tramex for walls, floors, etc...

If your budget can not afford both I would go with the SM at first and then when you can afford the Tramex you should get it as well.

I own both. I tend to favor the Tramex. Once in a while I pull out the Protimeter, usually to use the probes in an area where I can't place the Tramex.
