I have never seen type type of inducer unit before. It's difficult to depict from the photo but the hood is not centered over the flue. This is a rheem water heater, gas, 75 gallons manufactured in 1997. Is this correct. JDLR;)

I've never seen that either, but that doesn't make it wrong.
.
All WH (that I know of) come with the proper vent hood.
Check the manufacturers instructions.

I've seen a few with the draft inducer fan, but they were not like that one.

Hopefully Bob Harper will respond to this as he has excellent information on gas and gas appliances.

Mathew,

I would write it as WH connections show evidence of Leakage.

Removal from Service and Replacement Needed .

* still like to know but your right JDLR.

The majority of the water heaters around here are inducers, but never like this POS:) Looks like it came from the junk yard

Believe it or not that is the listed vent system. Those units had a very high internal stack temp. so this arrangement entrained more dilution and excess air which reduced stack temps to where they could use plastic venting.

Rheem PowerVent, but it's missing the rear shroud that covers the electrical connections.
