They are similar in that they cover fuel gas.

They are sorta the same. Let me explain. If you look in the International Fuel Gas Code (IFGC) you will see either "IFGC" or "IFGS" next to each section heading. IFGS stands for International Fuel Gas Standard and refers to the National Fuel Gas Code, also known as NFPA 54 and ANSI Z223.1. Sections labeled IFGS are extracted from NFPA 54 and can only be changed through the combined NFPA/AGA process. Sections labeled IFGC are changed through the ICC process. For the most part, this boils down to the technical requirements are from the standard while administrative portions are from the code/ICC portion. This is a strange arrangement worked out between AGA, NFPA and ICC when ICC first tried to publish a fuel gas code. This is because NFPA & AGA co-own the rights to all of the technical information in the National Fuel Gas Code like combustion air requirements, gas vent sizing requirements and gas pipe sizing just to name a few.
