No data plate on furnace or AC???

AC unit has no data plate or manufacturers name anywhere? Furnace also has no data plate or name. Any ideas as to why? Has anyone else ever seen this? It's a first for me. Maybe you know what the brand is by the cabinet? Can you tell by the photo if this furnace is ok to be on it's side? Thanks in advance.

On the AC unit did you look at the base when the suction and return lines enter the cabinet?

I looked everywhere. I even removed an access panel in hopes it was inside, or at least a manufacturers name.

Post a picture- that may help. Was there a wiring diagram in the control cabinet of either indoor or outdoor units?

I have seen a few HVAC units that didn't have data plates. I could see where one "was", but had fallen off or removed. There are a few units out there that have data plates, but no manufacturers name.

I've seen it before - contractor removed nameplate and sends it back in to the factory for warranty replacement, then installs that unit someplace else.

Those units no longer have any warranty whatsoever, and only the contractor who did that knows what was wrong with that unit that it had to be replaced.

Sorry everyone, I thought I had the photos uploaded. Now I'm out of town and wont be back to my desk until tomorrow. Thanks Jerry, I kinda had a feeling something like that was going on I just couldn't put my finger on it. Too weird for the plate to be missing on both the furnace and AC at the same house. I knew something was up. The wiring schematic was inside the panel cover that I removed on the AC but it was just a schematic. No name. I will get the pics up when I get back to my desk.

Metal engraved or stamped "plates" rivited or otherwise mechanically fastened welded to furnaces, AC condensors, etc. no longer required. It became common intiially to still use "plates" by many manufacturers but no longer "stamped" or engraved but printed - and the Plates glued on - many also then transitioned to "permament labels" for the data "plate" - and MANY of those earlier "printed" identifications did NOT stand up to UV, time, or general unconditioned space exposures. Additionally, the methods to "affix" same (oftentime adhesive even IF said "plate" was metalic - FAILED over time.It is NOT uncommon to find same missing for early to mid 70s through late 80s equipment even if nothing nefarious (such as what JP suggested) has taken place (as UV resistant inks, films, coatings, "label" substraights and adhesives technology were further developed, and the more recent haven't yet fully tested/proven over the same time periods - even today if same are inadvertantly wiped down or exposed to common interior and exterior household cleaning products, herbicide mixed for spray applications, pesticide applications, fertilizer mixed applications, they can be "wiped clean" of their data and/or the labels themselves can lift off, separate (film/coating layers, substraight from adhesive layer, come off, etc. ).
