Is it appropriate to saw off asbestos shingle(s) along bottom of crown molding? I would think you need to remove molding and remove asbestos.

No, its not appropriate to saw asbestos shingles, it creates way too much dust (fiber release).

You can saw, sand, grind, do whatever you want if you take the right precautions and are certified in asbestos abatement.
Sorry, I didn't see that this was a homeowner question. No, you don't want to do that. The EPA will give you 30 days in the electric chair.
The good news is, from the ads I see on TV, your survivors can get a ton of money from the Mesothelioma funds!!!
Also a little curious, why are there shingles below the crown molding? Is your house built inside out?

You can remove your own siding.
Here's how (http://www.pscleanair.org/regulated/asbestos/homeowners/asb-vinyl.pdf)
Check with local authorities, of course, but this gives you a general idea.

Chad,
Your link has to do with flooring, not siding. Interior and exterior removal is quite different.
