Did an inspection of a 1995 house that has a stucco exterior. Looking at it from a chipped area showed that their was a thin veneer plywood on the outside with the stucco applied, a one inch foam core and then another thin veneer that appeared to fiber-glassed or reinforced. Can any one identify this?

Thanks, Jim

I believe you are describing EIFS

No, I do not think it is EIFS because it has a backing. It is like the foam core is sandwiched between the two veneers

Jim,

As Steven said, that is EIFS - Exterior Insulation Finish System - one in which someone applied plywood to the exterior then stuccoed the plywood, but Exterior Insulation nonetheless.

I do not see much EIFS, but if the insulation (that foam core) is on the exterior, it is an EIFS, maybe not a manufactured system, but still EIFS.

I'm sure that Steven, Scott, or some of the others who see and inspect EIFS all the time will know what type of EIFS it is.
