A colleague of mine inspected a 1950's attic and noticed to quote him "gold sparkles everywhere". He lifted the insulation and saw more sparkles. The attic has 2" of fiberglass with the kraft paper backing and then 6" of blown-ihttp://www.interclik.com/inspector/IMG_1625-001.JPG.
Any ideas?

It looks like the texture of coarse sand, too fine to be typical vermiculite. Best we can do with that pic.
Try 600 X 800 pixels, scroll down to the 'upload photos' to add pics when you post.

If it is sandy, it could just be debris from a roof tear off. Shingle granules. What's the house age?

Gold sparkles, probably from Xmas decorations stored up there. If you see something strange like that, bring a sample home in a baggy.

It's Butch Cassidy's secret stash. I'll bet his old pistol is up there, too. :D

Maybe hardened droplets of sap from the roof decking.
But I like the old Christmas decoration idea.
