This is from an inspection today. This is a gutter that is attached along a chimney in the attic. Apparently the owner could not stop the leakage around the chimney so he fabricated a small gutter. Attached it to the brick and then attached a drain to a gallon jug!

Looks like he could use a larger jug.:D

Only leaked on the one side? Or is this a wrap around porch? :p

The other sides also leaked, but they are on the outside.;)

Dummy. You want to use a big shallow pan so the water evaporates in the summer, for zero maintenance. :D

My thoughts too ... and set that shallow pan on some brick which will heat up and help the evaporation.

I also wondered how many inches of rain he gets to the gallon? :)

Now, I ask you. Did you get paid from Walmart for the advertising. That whole scene looks like the Walmart shoppers photos you always see floating around. And the Walmart box along side it all. You just cannot make that stuff up.

It soaks up the leaking water and let's it evaporate without leaking down to the ceiling below. ;)

I do have to applaud the guy's creativity. I just wonder if he disclosed that as a leak or not ;).

Nope, this is proof that we just do not make this stuff up. It's stuff like this that make this a fun profession. Finding stuff like this just makes your day!

You guys have no appreciation for a good cistern system and that saving our planet's resources is a grass roots mandate that starts at one's home ;)
