You need a good job to support you! Insurance or Field inspections do not pay anything and you assume all of the cost of travel and your time. Look into the home inspection profession, it will cost you some money and it takes a couple of years to build a referral base but it is a great profession once you are established. Prior to becoming established you will need a part-time job or spouse with a good job!

Mark,keep your day job,work hard marketing your skills and services and wait for the phone to ring,it will take a while to build a client base.
Get involved in associations,so you can learn from others
