I felt like Ahab spying the Great White Whale when I went down into this basement.

An Octopus! What a rare find and it looks like it is in fair condition at that!

Can you believe the size of those ducts?! And enough asbestos to kill an army!

Ok, John, so you found a Giant Octopus. So, how about a Giant Squid?

Hey, at least they have a filter just before the oil burner and a shutoff. A stop valve but still a shutoff.

So John, did you feel a little like Kirk Douglass in 20K Leagues Under the Sea?

What a wimp! What's a little asbestosis between friends?

So, did the sellers ask if it was still under warranty?

Wow!,

I haven't seen a coal / oil conversion in over 10 years. You know there is no fan on those, they are convection.

I cost them at least twice in fuel what it would have cost to change it out.

Nice find!

Bruce

Hence the enormous ducts.

It was much hotter in the basement than anywhere else in the house!

What is that control mounted on the supply duct? A operating control or high limit? or somethig else...

I came across an octopus that was forced air. Can't find the picture of it. Had a fan pulley on the top of the furnace that was about 2 feet in diameter.

Now it's going to drive me nuts thinking about what happened to the pic.

Here's a home made bath exhaust fan. Looks more complicated then a store-bought product. Funny.

I found one of those in a Garage/workshop once. When I opened the door and there was the flame roaring I turned around to the people and said " I feel like making a sword" That one was in great shape.
