True, unless you modifiy the porch to hold a window AC. I bet I could configure or modifiy the porch to hold a window type AC for a lot less than the cost of this standup HVAC.

Would have been a great place for a hotel room style split system along the bottom of the wall.
I bet they knew somebody in order to buy the equipment and did the install themselves or their brother in law did it.

May have been installed by an a/c guy who had access to units he replaced and thought ... hmmmm ... I can use those instead of junking them ... ?

Then the cost would be cheaper than a window shaker. :)

I just saw the identical set up in Saginaw.

Maybe over done but without it that room would be 120 in the sun in the afternoon or more in the summer. A window unit would not have cut it.

I just inspected another home that had an 8x12 enclosed patio. Glass all around. Winter as in now. That room was over 90 with the sun beating on it. I can only imagine how hot when it is 115 outside. Open the windows? Still hot as hell in the summer time.
