Is a Model CKL36-1H Goodman condensing unit a heat pump? Could not see inside to see reversing valve.
I believe the second letter would be a P if it was a heat pump but I am not sure.

Trying to make sense of manufacturers model number schemes is the rock you will perish on. Google Goodman CKl36-1 and you should find that it is a condenser unit not heatpump.

Any pics of the unit label?

Here is a pic. I think it is not a heat pump.

How about the thermostat inside the house? Was it a heat pump thermostat with an emergency backup heat mode option?

I Could not see inside to see reversing valve.
Curious, why is that?

Reversing valve and accumulator pretty much means it is a heat pump!

I train my inspectors, that no matter what the label "implies" ALWAYS verify the condenser is running when you have the thermostat in "heat" mode as sometimes things can change. Just because you are getting heat, doesn't mean the heat pump (if one) is running properly.

And just because it is not running does not mean there is anything wrong. There are multi-fuel heating systems, like mine!

Here is a page I wrote to address this issue. Hope it helps someone. How do I know if I have a heat pump? | Blue Palmetto Home Inspection (http://www.summerville-home-inspector.com/content/how-do-i-know-if-i-have-heat-pump)
