I finally found one I can't solve! This doesn't add up....

House built 2000
But HWH is 2004

Climate Master Heat Pump
S# B10483591

Coils rusty. Looks more like 8-13 years

Digest says 1st letter is month, second two are year. No way this is 2010.

Any similar experience? Suggestions?

No. Geothermal installed in new construction.
I think the guy was doing bits and pieces as he got the money.
I'm wondering if he didn't start permit in 2000 and finish in 2004!

The link attached is incorrect for a serial number of this type. Starting in 1999, ClimateMaster uses the first letter to refer to the year: B = 2000. The next number is almost always 1 (probably an internal reference for CM), then the next two numbers refer to the week. Not all letters are used, hence L refers to 2008.

B10483591 was built in the fourth week of 2000.

So if B=2000 and L=2008 what does J equate to? I've got a unit with SN J15144169. So it's the 15 week of year J, I just don't know what year J represents. Thanks.

The examples don't quite match the dates of construction or the water heater date ... unless ... unless we do what Dave said and ignore the first '1' digit after the number, then it matches the water heater date as the date would be: B10483591 or February of 2004.

If you ignored the first '1' in the example on that website, the date of manufacturer would not be affected because K111 would still be October of 2011.

Just sayin' ... it works out if that is done.

I suspect that Raymond's unit follows the Style 3 serial example - not sure what letters between E and N represent which year, but his L number fits between the two example letters shown (E=2003 and N=2010, Raymond's L=2007/2008 so it fits between the two shown).

O.K. I'll buy that. Then going back to an earlier post, if they started using that style in 1999, A=99, B=2000, and so on. If you delete the G because it can look like a 6 and the I because it can look like a 1, all the letters and numbers would match up.

Many skip I and J because those two can be confused, Q is also skipped because it looks like O, and some skip O (as in M-N-O-P) because it can be confused with 0 (as in 0-1-2-3).

I think this is close, but today I learned that J is 2006, and I saw a Q today, which was recently installed. Odd that they would use Q.
