I was sad to receive the information this morning that we have recently lost one of our inspection family.

OAK HARBOR: Thomas R. Young, 65 of Oak Harbor, OH died suddenly Saturday, March 16, 2013 at Magruder Hospital, Port Clinton, OH.

He was born July 25, 1947 in Toledo, OH to the late Thomas R. and Elizabeth H. (Stieworth) Young. He attended Waite High School in Toledo, OH. On July 25, 1968 he married the former Donna Miller and she survives. He served six years in the Ohio National Guard and was called upon during the Kent State shootings. Tom retired from GTE in Port Clinton as a supervisor after 24 years of Service. He also owned and operated Young's Video in Oak Harbor for over 26 years, and currently owned and operated North Coast Property Inspection. He currently held a seat on the State Board of Home Inspections, was Treasurer of N.A.H.I., and member of Oak Harbor United Methodist Church, the Oak Harbor Lions Club, and the I.B.E.W. Local 8 of Toledo. He was one of three founding members of the Springfield Basketball League in Toledo, OH and had coached numerous youth baseball leagues in Springfield as well.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years Donna of Oak Harbor; children: Michelle (James "Billy") Melcher of Elmore, OH, Steve (Tara) Young of Woodville, OH, and Donna (Nick) Kern of Upper Arlington, OH; grandchildren: Kylie and Kaylie Melcher and Delaney and Nolan Young.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and ½ sister Sandy Smith.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-8pm with the family present from 2-4 & 6-8pm at the Crosser Funeral Home, Oak Harbor. Funeral Services will begin at 11am Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at the Funeral Home. Burial will be in Salem Twp. Union Cemetery, Oak Harbor.

Due to a severe floral allergy in the family, in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to either the Ronald McDonald House of Northwest Ohio or the Oak Harbor Lions Club.

It is always sad to hear of the sudden passing of a fellow inspector, he will be missed by all. Thoughts and prayers go to his family and friends.
