Long Trap

I found in our 1960 building today a long trap, meaning this. The drain comes from the tub, drops into a 90 travels 2' rises again, that's the trap and the 90 for the P to a Tee. Was this a typical application back then? Is it legal? It seems to work, but has a great potential to collect lots of hair and other things. No wonder so many of these are clogged.:(

I cannot picture what you describe, but sounds kinda funky to me. (Funky is a technical term)

The golden rules of plumbing in the 1960's were essentially the same as they are now. The trap should be right at the drain, then the standard trap arm slope is 1/4" per foot to the Tee. What you describe is absolutely wrong and always has been.

Sounds like an old drum trap setup and they removed the drum??? Hard to visualize what is going on... :confused:
