Looks like an old Edwards heat detector.

Actually they are not that old and are commonly referred to as "Rate-of-Rise" detectors. They respond to rapid changes of temperature such as caused by a fire just starting out, as well as a fixed temperature. A common way to test them is to just place your hand on the unit. The change of temperature from your hand would set set them off.

And, these older rate-of-rise heat detectors are a major PIA for firefighters since they often false alarm with changes in weather / barometric pressure. Climate change will probably cause them to all go off together sometime in the next two or three thousand years. Better add it to your reports...:biggrin:

It's not 124 but definitely a heat detector that was in use since at least the early '60s
