Coleman Forced Air Furnace Age

I have scoured my resources and can not find a resource for the age of this furnace. The model number is 2636A and a series number of 856. I could not find a serial number on the plate. Any ideas? I was told the furnace was original to the house. Thanks for your help.

Coleman Heating and Cooling was bought by Evcon Industries in 1990 and by York (owned by Johnson Controls) in 1996 - York has manufactured under the Coleman name since 1999. You might try contacting them at: Coleman Heating & Air Conditioning, 5005 York Dr., Norman, OK 73069, 877-874-7378.

Is this a manufactured home? The complete model and serial number should be in two boxes on the same line on the data tag. See: manufacture or age of an COLEMAN® furnace or other manufactured COLEMAN® HVAC unit (http://www.buildingcenter.org/coleman). Sometimes the numbers can be hard to read. For example - is the 1st number in your model a "2" or a "7?" Coleman did produce several series 856 furnaces, but I can't find any 2600 model numbers. You may also be able to get a date code from the furnace control board.

You did not give the age of the house. The series number is not the serial number. Below are some key dates for Coleman.

1958-Coleman Company entered the Heating and Air Conditioning business with units designed for mobile homes;
1984-acquied Red T Coil, a mfg. of evaporator coils and fan coil units;
1990-Beacon Capital Corporation acquired Coleman’s Heating and Air Conditioning division to create Evcon Industries;
1996-York acquired Evcon Industries-continued to market their products under the Coleman-Evcon name;
1999-began marketing products solely under the Coleman name
