Would the window need to be safety rated adjacent to this door? I say no because of the wall projection, but curious what you all think?

Hi Brian,
The answer is "no" it is not required on that side. It would be required if that door was hinged on the left side and if the door swung towards the window where the nearest vertical edge of the window was with 24" of the arc of a door. IRC 308.4
Some interpret the Code differently and I will see Tempered glass installed on this side too.

From the 2006 IRC
6. Glazing, in an individual fixed or operable panel adjacent
to a door where the nearest vertical edge is within a
24-inch (610 mm) arc of the door in a closed position
and whose bottom edge is less than 60 inches (1524
mm) above the floor or walking surface.

You may want to look at : page 3 of 5

If the window is within 24" of door and not 60" above floor.
I know the argument will be that the door's hinged radius arc as installed is restricted to one side. The issue is that the door hinging can be changed. So Arc is relative to both sides of door jam.

Garry, that's a good illustration.

Sometimes a picture/graphic sketch is worth a 1,000 words and two days of arguing over the meaning of "is".
