Hmmmmmm.....not the best pointing work I've ever seen but aside needing some mortar cap repair, it doesn't look too ba.............oops. Never mind.

Why worry? From the curb you can see the flue tile so you can report this chimney is lined....

Looks like about half of the chimneys I see (and I'm sure you guys see)...It's a "shortcut" for proper height.

that's for all the guys that don't go on the roof. Oops, missed another problem, Oops, my SOP will protect me.OOPS, my SOP didn't protect me. OOPSIE!!!! By the way Nick, that's my chimney. HAHAHHAHA

Billy, does that model Cat come with rubber treads? I don't think the town would appreciate the footprints that thing will leave on the road. :biggrin:

Anyway, I'll bet a rope and a pickup could topple that mess and it's pretty short, too.

That chimney actually vents a gas furnace and gas water heater (no fireplace). My report stated the absence of a flue liner in that section and bricks that improperly constrict the inside diameter of the flue. Have serviced by a masonry chimney professional and all repairs made as needed.

John your method would leave all the mess the chimney is attached to.
*heavy equipment can be transported to where you need it.
