Amana (1971-1995 Now owned by Goodman) uses (1st letter) “B L A C K H O R S E” code prior to being owned by Goodman

AirTemp 5th digit in S# = year (Only manufactured in 1977-1978)
Airquest A letter followed by two #’s in S# are year.
Example: R883512345 = 1988
American Standard (date on plate since 1987)
1) If S# is 9 numbers than (2002-present), the first digit of the serial number is the year followed by the week.
Example: 7165RHAIG = 16th week of 2007

2) If S# starts with a letter (1983-2001) a letter was used in the first position to designate the year followed by the week.
Example: B50632891 = Dec 87

W = 83

4) If S# is number letter-4 numbers (1971-1979) In 70’s there was a number for year followed by letter for month ex 1C-xxxx = March 1971, etc..





Arco-aire: A letter followed by two #’s in the S# = year ex: R883512345 = 1988
Aire-Flo: 3rd and 4th digit in S# = Year ex 4604E13679 = 2004
Armstrong: (1974-Present) 3rd and 4th number in S# = year ex 5899A05231 = 1999
Pre 1974 it was the first two numbers in the S# can call 800 448-5872 or 972-497-5799 (most are stamped on – See Lennox)
Bard: ( June 1980 to Current) 5th & 6th digits in S# = Year
Example: 123A91123454502 = 1991
(1962 to March 1980) 8th digit = year.
Example: 123456 A D (D= 1964)

The third series of numbers is the Manufacture date- this tank was manufactured on the 80th day of 2007, so the first digit signifies the year and the next three signify the day of the year -
Example: 005, 065, 365

2)If order is like: 253000-08065-00040-77470007254 The second sequence is the year and day of the year the product was manufactured so-65th day of 2008.





Carrier, Bryant, Payne, Day & Night:
Recently (last 20 years or so) 3rd and 4th digits in S# = year Through 1969, the first digit of the serial number indicates the year of manufacture.
Example: 3xxxxxx = 1963, 1970 and later, a letter followed by a number indicates the month and year of manufacture.
Example: A1 = January 1971, B1 = February 1971, C4 = March 1974 etc.
Central Environmental Systems: see York
Chrysler Air Temp: 2 types
1)Age is shown by the first digit of the serial number and corresponds to the last number of the year of manufacturer.
Example 0C893745 = 1970. 1 = 1971, 2 = 1972, etc. Use common sense and visual observation to distinguish decades from one another.

Coleman: (1992-present) 1st two digits in S# = year , (pre 1992) 3rd and 4th digits in S# = year

Concord: 3rd and 4th digits in S# = year 1-800-448-5872
Conquest: 1st two digits in S# after the last letter (usually beginning with the 8th digit) = year
Day-Night: (since 1979 see Carrier) (Prior to BDP in Pre1979) Age coded into the serial number. First letter is the month followed by the second letter which is the year. A = 1970, B = 1971, Etc.
Example: AAxxxxxx = January 1970
Dayton: A letter followed by two #’s in the S# = year
Example: R883512345 = 1988





Ducane: 2 Types:
1) If serial # is all #’s then last four are year and week
Example: 4140720320 = 20th week of 2003

2) If 5th character is a letter (more recent) year is 3rd and 4th character
Example: 4603M12345 is 46th week of 2003

Enterprise Fawcett: 2nd letter in S# = year

General Electric: (Stopped in mid 80’s- Trane Since) Age is the last 3 digits of the serial number. First digit being the year and the second and third digits being the month.
Example xxxxx241 = 41st week of 1982, 92, 02 etc., xxxxx533 = 33rd week of 1985, 95, 05 etc.. Not very reliable. Look for evidence of age
Gibson: 1st two Numbers in S# = year (usually 1st two digits in S# are numbers and = year) or see Nordyne
Goodman: 1st two digits in S# = year (usually 1st two digits in S# are numbers and = year)
Grandaire: 4th and 5th digit in S# = year
Example: GS3991251776 = 1999
Heat Controller: 2nd and 3rd digits in S# = year
Example: 28903 160610 = 1989
H.B. Smith: 1st two numbers (usually after one letter) in S# = year
Example: D86 2810P = 1986

Intertherm: 4th and 5th digits in S# = year (S# will start with letter)
International Comfort Products: A letter followed by two #’s in S# are year

same idea only it was a six digit date code following the serial number that is year and month.
Example: 1234567-200105 = May of 2001. Anything w/o the addition to the serial number would have been made before 1984 and would require contact with the factory.
Pennco: A letter followed by 4 #’s, 3rd and 4th #’s = year

Penstan Air-ease: 3rd and 4th digits in S# = year

Agreed. The website has some holes in its library but is a good resource and is my first stop for appliance ages when I am in doubt. The serial and model # examples they provide are idiot proof.
