Found these today in a main panel and it's the first time I've seen them. House built in 2010. The box below the main panel did not appear to go anywhere...there was nothing on the exterior of the house at this location. The panel was in the garage. Ideas? If you know what they are, then the next questions are obvious...what are they used for? Why? Why have I not seen them before?

Also, why can I not insert a carriage return in this forum? When I hit enter the text will not start on the next line.

I can't get photos to upload...the uploader just spins and spins...file is only 122k, pretty small...ideas? Thanks, Dave

Edit: I just changed from the WYSIWYG and now I can insert carriage returns...one issue resolved. I'll try posting the photos again now.

Edit: I got photos to load by moving away from the enhanced interface...that seems to have been the issue.

They look like current transducers, possibly part of an energy monitoring system.

You might want to check out something like the TED 5000 IIRC.

They are sensors for a type of meter.
Kinda like a clamp on amp meter.

Looks like a cheap version of the Emon-Demon, metering devices used a lot to monitor the energy use for an apartment or part of a building when you don't actually have a power co. meter. It counts kw hours and then you figure out the usage by whatever the POCO charges per kw hour.

Current transformers. I think the other posters explained it better than me. Safe, yes, I know many in operation. However if its code compliant since its not part of the listed enclosure Im not really sure. Some else would probably know more than me.
