hey sparkies out therei was told some time ago by a master electrician that your room entry switch is only suppose to control either upper or lower plug in a receptacle--and contact between plugs should be cut--is this correct. thanks cvf

This is a design issue and the code was silent until the last cycle or so. Now if both halves are switched they do not count as part of the required receptacles in the 6/12 spacing. A non switched receptacle would also be required.

If you have a nonswitched receptacle within 6' of the door than every 12' , not counting that switched receptacle, then it meets code. Also take into account that the 6' starts over at framed openings and doorways.
