After taking 2 hours to fish a wire 2.5 feet, this is what the "electrician" left in the attic (batt was left up---I didn't remove it to take the picture). What's missing in the picture? :rolleyes:

And while we are at it, any comments on the light just inside the hatch so you hit it everytime you go through the hatch (outside of mechanical protection)?

No bushing as Jeff said, also no draftstopping in the top plate (all holes should be sealed).

Typically, expanding foam is used to seal those holes in metal framing top plates, however, not the regular expanding foam used for draft stopping (two words) but expanding foam labeled and listed for use as draftstopping (one word) and fireblocking (one word). The cans will state (labeled) that it is listed for such use, and the foam is typically has a reddish/orangeish color tint to allow identification from the typically cream color of expanding foam used for draft stopping (the two word kind).

Plus------- only a visual 3 1/2 inches of insulation in the attic. Also if more were put in then they need the hatch opening built up above total insulation. Plus they need the hatch cover insulated as well. Maybe some more goodies to note but what the other guys said but that's enough for now.

Ya, in the middle of this he blew the ckt breaker and I had to yell up and ask if he was OK. Maybe he shorted it out pushing the wire through the metal opening..... :mad:

Had a commercial contractor start to install the DAP fire block product in a 4 story commercial hotel here. I was able to stop him after 2 stories of plumbing penetrations...it is not a fire stopping product. He understands this now :)

Seems that a lot of contractors do not understand the difference between fireblocking and firestopping, or draft stopping and draftstopping, or even draftstopping and firestopping.

Oh definately...but it's like everything - the good ones understand and the bad ones don't - or don't care. I see quite a few of your replies - you seem very knowledgeable and you take the time to respond...I read but don't contribute much :(
