Washer Pan

Need some code advice. It is rare that I see a newer home with a washer on the second floor and no pan but...today a brand new home with second floor utility room and no floor drain or washer pan. My questions is is this allowed and where in the code can I find the reference.

It's a good idea, but I do not know of a requirement to have a pan for a washing machine.
