Front Entry/Porch Concrete Slab

I inspected a newer home yesterday that had a concrete slab poured at the covered front entrance/porch from the outside everything looked fine. In the crawl space I observed something I've not seen yet on a poured slab not on grade. In the crawlspace I observed a support under the slab made of two by fours which was not secured in the ground. At first glance I thought it was a temporary support that wasn't removed but further inspection shows it is bearing weight. The rebar from the slab runs through holes drilled into the joists. The slab on the crawlspace side is covered with a piece of ply wood so I can not tell whats between the plywood and the slab. There is a 2x4 screwed into the block wall with the 2x4 supports resting on it. Would like to get some opinions on this. Thank you for your help and information!!!

If you look close you can see the rebar stick through the joist on the right side of the photo.

I have had some experience with a suspended slab porch similar to what you found. It is rare to see the wood left in place like you have found. The wood is just a buffet for the local termites looking for a new place to dine.

Over time the wood will rot away, this will allow the weight of the slab to cause some settlement and a large crack will appear in the concrete. The slab will continue to sink and crack then the rebar will pull away and the entire slab and whoever is on it will fall into the pit!

I cannot tell too much from the photos. It could be that the slab is properly reinforced and the wood is just formwork left in place. It also could be a big mess.

Don't care for the fact it looks like a dirt floor. I would have liked to have seen a concrete floor.

Unusual way for the concrete to be pinned like it is with exposed rebar.

Thank you all for the information and help!!! Sorry again for the pictures my camera malfunctioned without me knowing and I lost quite a few of my pictures. I'm attempting to set up an appointment to go back and get additional pictures to replace the ones I lost. Again thank you all for the help...I felt it wasn't right and appreciate the info to confirm my suspicions.
